“Delhi Assembly Elections: BJP Forms Alliance with JD(U) and LJP(R), Plans to Field Strong Candidates”
Drawing from the strategy employed in Jharkhand, the BJP is set to forge an alliance with JD(U) and LJP(R) for the upcoming Delhi assembly elections. The party is reportedly preparing to allocate three to five constituencies to these partners. To intensify election groundwork, there are plans to establish an election management committee and a candidate selection committee, alongside the core group, within the coming week.
The current term of the Delhi Assembly is slated to conclude in February of the following year.
In a bid to break its longstanding electoral dry spell in Delhi, the BJP is shaping a strategy to deploy former Members of Parliament, influential councillors, and senior leaders as candidates in the elections. Party insiders reveal that JD(U) and LJP(R) may be given constituencies with a significant Muslim population, such as Sangam Vihar, Burari, and Seemapuri, though the total number is expected to remain under five. Given that the assembly term wraps up in February, it is anticipated that the elections will likely occur at the end of January.
Once the November 20 elections are over, the entire workforce will shift its focus to Delhi.
For the Delhi elections, the RSS intends to bring its full organizational strength to bear, echoing its efforts in Haryana. Sources from the Sangh indicate that, for the time being, their workers are stationed in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. Once the voting on November 20 is concluded, these workers will divert their attention to Delhi, thereby accelerating the campaign’s momentum as the month progresses. The Sangh’s blueprint involves door-to-door outreach and street-corner assemblies to galvanize support.
Up to eight prominent councillors are expected to stand in the Delhi elections.
Insiders suggest that former MPs like Pravesh Verma and Ramesh Bidhuri might be tapped to contest the Delhi Assembly elections this time. Both leaders had been passed over for tickets in the Lok Sabha elections. Additionally, at least eight strong councillors are anticipated to run in these elections. However, it appears that the majority of the current MLAs are unlikely to secure nominations.
