Trump Orders Airstrikes on ISIS Hideouts in Somalia.
The United States military launched a series of airstrikes targeting Islamic State (ISIS) militants in Somalia on Saturday, following direct orders from President Donald Trump. According to US Defense Secretary Pete Hagest, the strikes were carried out in the Golis mountain region, eliminating several ISIS operatives.
Trump Justifies Airstrikes Against ISIS Terrorists
In a statement on X, President Trump defended the military action, explaining that the airstrikes targeted ISIS members who were hiding in caves. He emphasized that these terrorists were responsible for planning attacks and recruiting extremists.
“This morning, I ordered precision airstrikes on the ISIS attack planner and other terrorists who recruited and led operatives in Somalia. These killers, hiding in caves, posed a direct threat to the United States and our allies. Our military successfully destroyed the caves and eliminated many terrorists without harming civilians in any way,” Trump wrote.
Trump Criticizes Biden’s Inaction on ISIS Threats
In his post, Trump also took the opportunity to criticize former President Joe Biden, accusing him of failing to act swiftly against ISIS militants. Trump claimed that US military forces had been tracking this specific ISIS leader for years, but the Biden administration had not taken decisive action.
“Our military had been targeting this ISIS attack planner for years, but Biden and his team refused to act quickly. I did! The message to ISIS and all other enemies of America is clear—we will find you, and we will kill you,” Trump declared.
US Defense Secretary Highlights Impact of the Airstrikes
US Defense Secretary Pete Hagest stressed the importance of these airstrikes, asserting that they significantly weakened ISIS’s ability to orchestrate attacks against the United States, its allies, and innocent civilians. He reiterated that the United States remains committed to eliminating threats wherever they emerge.
“These operations send a clear message that the United States is always prepared to track and eliminate terrorists who pose a danger to our nation and our allies. Under President Trump’s leadership, we continue to enforce strong border security while simultaneously conducting critical military operations,” Hagest said.
Trump’s Past Warnings to Terrorist Organizations
According to The Hill, this is not the first time Trump has issued a stern warning to ISIS and other terrorist organizations. In previous statements, he emphasized the necessity of taking swift action against global threats while also advocating for a more limited US role in certain conflicts.
“We’re not involved in Syria,” Trump told reporters on Thursday. “Syria is dealing with its own problems. They don’t need us interfering in everything.”
