Selena Gomez, the Mexican-American singer and actress, shared a deeply emotional response on Instagram Monday regarding the recent immigration enforcement sweeps initiated by the Trump administration. The operation, which led to over 1,000 arrests nationwide, has sparked intense debate across the country.

Selena Gomez’s Emotional Instagram Post

In a now-deleted Instagram story, Gomez tearfully addressed the situation, saying, “All my people are getting attacked. The children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry.”

The star of “Emilia Pérez” appeared visibly distraught in the video, expressing frustration and helplessness. “I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise,” she added.

Gomez accompanied her video with the words “I’m sorry” and an emoji of the Mexican flag.

Shortly after posting the video, Gomez shared another message on her Instagram story, saying, “Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people.” However, this post was also deleted shortly after.

Backlash and Response

The video quickly gained attention, prompting a response from border czar Tom Homan during an interview on Fox News.

Homan questioned Gomez’s focus, saying, “Why isn’t she crying for those who have died from fentanyl brought into the US across the southern border?” He also referenced families separated due to crimes committed by individuals who entered the US illegally.

Homan further criticized Gomez for not addressing children smuggled into the US who face abuse, though some of his claims appeared to misrepresent federal statistics.

Immigration Sweeps by the Trump Administration

The immigration enforcement operation, launched Sunday, resulted in 956 arrests in its initial phase, with over 1,100 apprehensions reported as of Monday.

The operation targeted individuals deemed public safety and national security threats, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The sweep involved multiple agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

Key locations of the enforcement actions included California, Texas, Georgia, Colorado, Chicago, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.

Selena Gomez’s Silence After Deletion

As of now, Selena Gomez has not addressed her deleted posts or responded to public reactions. CNN has reached out to her representatives for comment but has not received a response.

Gomez’s emotional reaction highlights the ongoing division over immigration policies and enforcement in the US, with her deleted posts reflecting the sensitive and polarized nature of the issue.
