Dhaka: Chief Advisor of Bangladesh’s interim government, Mohammad Yunus, extended warm wishes to the Hindu community on the occasion of Saraswati Puja on Monday. He emphasized that Bangladesh is a land of communal harmony and belongs to all its citizens, regardless of religion or caste. His statement came as Hindus across the country celebrated Saraswati Puja with devotion and enthusiasm.

Message of Unity and Communal Harmony

In a message released on Sunday, Yunus reaffirmed Bangladesh’s long-standing tradition of unity among different communities. He stated, “Bangladesh is the abode of communal harmony. For thousands of years, people of all religions, castes, and colors have coexisted in this land.” Further emphasizing inclusivity, he added, “This country belongs to all its people, and every citizen has an equal stake in its progress and prosperity.”

Commitment to Social Welfare

Yunus, who assumed the role of interim leader following last year’s uprising, assured that his government is committed to protecting the rights and welfare of all citizens, irrespective of their religious beliefs. He underscored the administration’s efforts to create an inclusive society where people from diverse backgrounds can thrive.

Significance of Saraswati Puja

Highlighting the importance of the festival, Yunus said, “Goddess Saraswati is a symbol of wisdom, truth, justice, and knowledge. She represents the power of speech and enlightenment.” He urged the Hindu community to dedicate themselves to the nation’s development and contribute to its progress.

Ongoing Concerns About Religious Tensions

Despite Yunus’ reassurances, Bangladesh has witnessed several incidents of violence against its Hindu minority under the interim government. These incidents have raised concerns among critics, both domestically and internationally. India has also expressed its dissatisfaction over the reported attacks on Hindu temples and communities, urging Bangladesh to ensure the safety and rights of its minorities.

Call for Unity and Peace

Concluding his message, Yunus extended his wishes for peace, prosperity, and welfare for all citizens of Bangladesh. He reiterated that his government remains committed to fostering an environment of respect and tolerance, ensuring that the country remains a safe home for people of all faiths.
